Sinclair Oil was founded in 1916 upon the combination of 11 other smaller oil companies.  At the 1933-34 World's Fair, Sinclair featured a dinosaur exhibit which related the development of petroleum deposits and the dinosaur age.  The exhibit was very popular and linked the oil company with dinosaurs, hence the dinosaur in their logo.  At the 1964-65 World's Fair, they again had a pavillion featuring dinosaurs.  In 1969 Sinclair was acquired by ARCO petroleum, which was formed when Atlantic and Richfield oil companies merged.  In 1976 ARCO sold off certain assests of Sinclair it still possessed to Robert Holding.
